If you plan to walk to the Calanque de Sugiton in summer, you may need a reservation. It is free, but it is mandatory on specific dates. The details below come from the website of the Parc national des Calanques, and you should recheck them there before you go, since the rules can change.
What has changed?
On certain dates, access to Sugiton, and to Pierres Tombées, requires a free reservation. The park gives erosion as the reason. A daily quota limits the number of people. We are not quoting a number because we do not have a reliable one.
For a visitor, the change is mostly one of planning. Instead of deciding the morning of your walk, you decide a few days earlier, and you need a signal on your phone to show the code. Save a screenshot as a backup.
Dates in 2026
For 2026, the reservation was required on these dates:
- June 20 and 21
- Every day from June 27 to August 30
- September 5 and 6
- September 12 and 13
Outside these dates, there is no reservation requirement. The park board has extended the system until 2027, but the 2027 dates are still to be confirmed. In winter, no reservation is needed.
If you are traveling in July or August, assume you need the reservation. If you are traveling in spring or autumn, check the calendar on the park's site rather than relying on this page, since the system was extended and the details may be updated.

Reservations are made on the park's official website. According to a secondary source, bookings open about three days before, at 9 a.m. You then receive a QR code, which you should have on your phone when you go. Verify the booking window yourself on the park's site, since we are relying on a secondary source for that part.
Bookings open shortly before the day, so you cannot plan far ahead. The practical consequence is that a trip planned weeks ahead cannot be secured in advance, and you should have a second plan for the day.
Fire closures
If the massifs are closed because of fire risk, reservations are canceled automatically. They cannot be moved to another day. That is a real risk in summer, especially in windy weather, so always check the status the morning of your hike. Our article on the mistral explains why wind and fire risk go together.
The second plan could be a different part of the coast, a boat trip if it is running, or a day in the city. Keep the plan light so a closure does not ruin your day.
Other Calanques
Outside the reservation dates, you can go without booking, though the park asks visitors to avoid crowds. To plan a route, see our Calanques guide and the Calanques hiking guide.
Outside the listed dates, you can walk without a reservation, but the park still asks visitors to avoid peak crowds. Going early in the day is the simplest way to do that. The reservation exists because of erosion, so treating the trails with care and staying on marked routes helps in the same direction.
One last reminder: all of this comes from the Parc national des Calanques website as we read it, and the 2027 dates are to be confirmed. Recheck the park's site a few days before your walk.
